FREE PATTERN: Basic Shirt Size 56 - 62 | 0 - 3 months

This shirt is for little boys and girls! If you print size 56 with just 75% you can sew it for baby dolls as well! For more information have a look at the end of the blog post. Please make sure, you use jersey and cuffed fabric for the neckline. Only fabrics that stretch well should be used so that they can be pulled over the head well!

The European sizes are based on the child’s height measured in centimeters. In the ebooks, the sizes are indicated in both ways, centimeters, and inches of course. Also, the fabric requirement is listed in centimeters and yards. The European size of 56 - 62 corresponds to the UK or US size of 0 - 3 months.

About the Pattern

Fabric choice

Use a 35 cm jersey and a strip of cuffed fabric (for the neckline). Only fabrics that stretch well should be used so that they can be pulled over the head well!

Grainline

Pattern pieces should be cut according to the grainline of the fabric. The grainline of jersey and sweatshirt/fleece fabric is usually perpendicular to the main stretch direction. There is almost no give/stretch along the grainline. You will find both the grainline and direction of stretch lines on the pattern pieces that will help you to lay out your pattern pieces correctly.

Fold

Fold indicates that you should fold the fabric here and place the pattern piece along the fold line. You will cut through both layers of fabric.

Pattern markings

Transfer all pattern markings using tailor‘s chalk or by cutting small notches within the seam allowance. Make sure to also mark the center of the pattern pieces (fold line).

Stitch

You need to use a stretch stitch! This can be a zigzag or other stretch stitch of the sewing machine or you can use a serger. If another stitch is required, the instructions will tell you so.

Sewing instructions for Longsleeve

Follow these steps to get a basic longsleeve for babies!

You can find these instructions in the ebook as well of course.

Sewing a Doll Shirt (for 43 cm dolls)

If you set the printer to 70%, then you can also sew the 56 sizes wonderfully for the dolls. The only thing you should do differently is the arm hem. Before you close the sleeves and side seams, you should hem them beforehand. Otherwise, it will be very fiddly. Here are a few example photos of the 43 cm tall Baby born.
